Ecological Internet’s Campaign to End Ancient Forest Logging Gaining Support via Forest Protection Blog December 6th, 2008 at 20:51

image Ecological Internet's campaign to end ancient forest logging as the keystone response to the climate and biodiversity crises continues to gain both scientific credibility and prominence within the environmental movement. A new atlas from the UN Environment Programme shows not surprisingly that most of the world's terrestrial biodiversity and carbon storage hotspots [ark] are found in Earth's last great primary and old growth forest expanses. Find ways to maintain these areas in an intact condition while meeting local development aspirations, without stealing their land, and the world is well on the way to global ecological sustainability. For several years Ecological Internet has informed the forest movement and the world that perhaps the greatest impediment to doing so is...

This is a major victory for those including Ecological Internet (EI) and FSC-Watch[1] who have courageously taken on large environmental interests using FSC to greenwash ancient forest destruction. Let’s Change It: Bringing the Green Community Together via It's Getting Hot In Here August 10th, 2008 at 04:02

image This past week I was lucky enough to hang out with the Greenpeace Youth Network for a few days at their annual youth camp, Change It, in Seattle. I e-mailed some Greenpeace friends to ask if I could come help at the camp for a few reasons. 1) I went to the Greenpeace sponsored Direct Action Camp this past June and wanted to keep tabs on what Greenpeace is up to in my neck of the woods. 2) I’ll be a trainer at Oregon’s SPROG this upcoming week and I wanted to get a taste for what was to come. 3) I work for the Sierra Club now and I’m already seeing the debilitating effects of environmental infighting. I went to the Greenpeace’s Change It camp as a personal attempt at abnormal environmental networking. I’m currently reading a book, Greenpeace, by Rex Weyler about the early...

Untouched Natural Forests Store Three Times More Carbon via Forest Protection Blog August 4th, 2008 at 18:53

image An important new Australian study finds that "untouched natural forests store three times more carbon dioxide [ark] than previously estimated and 60 percent more than plantation forests" and that first-time "logging resulted in more than a 40 percent reduction in long-term carbon compared with unlogged forests." They conclude that "in Australia and probably globally the carbon carrying capacity of natural forests [search] is underestimated and therefore misrepresented in economic valuations and in policy options." This resoundingly confirms Ecological Internet's forest campaign's key principle: sustaining intact ancient primary forests, by virtue of their holding of carbon and species, is a requirement for global ecological sustainability. This Earth Action Network's shared...

Greenpeace’s Inconsistent Forest/Carbon Message on Display in the Canadian Boreal via Forest Protection Blog April 14th, 2008 at 14:54

image Greenpeace warns in a new report entitled "Turning Up the Heat" that industrial logging in Canada's boreal forests [ark] threatens to turn the country's vast northern forest into a source of global warming. Greenpeace-Canada diagnoses the problem -- Boreal ancient forest logging causes climate change -- while being myopic and inconsistent on the solution, insinuating that industrial logging of ancient forests can be done acceptably. Yet we know first-time selective logging of primary forests releases immediately at least 40% of their carbon, while forever dimininishing future carbon holding potential, leaving behind much diminished tree plantations. Greenpeace wants to have it both ways -- highlighting the climate hazard of logging primary forests while actively supporting...

EARTH MEANDERS: Exclude Ancient Forest Logging Supporters from Holiday Gift List via Forest Protection Blog November 13th, 2007 at 03:14

Environmental groups embracing certified logging of primary and old-growth forests threaten climate, biodiversity, ecosystems, sustainability and humanity -- stop giving them moneyWhat do Rainforest Action Network (RAN), Greenpeace (GP) and WWF have in common? Each support first time, industrial logging of ancient rainforests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC); implying and even stating it is sustainable and somehow "protects" these primordial green cathedrals that sustain being. The "Big-Three" ancient forest logging apologists have sold out the world's forests and climate, and should have no place on your holiday gift list. They refuse to even defend their FSC support, and will not commit to ending ancient forest logging until it hits their bottom line. So stop...

PRESS RELEASE: Greenpeace Resists Clarion Call to “End Ancient Forest Logging” via Earth Blog July 6th, 2007 at 19:03

Insists can 'protect' ancient forests while actively promoting their fist time 'certified' logging By Ecological Internet's Climate Ark and Rainforest Portal http://www.climateark.org/ and http://www.rainforestportal.org/ July 6, 2007 Greenpeace International has confirmed astonishing allegations by Ecological Internet that they actively promote and support the logging of ancient forests, at great expense to the Earth's climate. In their statement Greenpeace acknowledges they are "committed to protecting the world’s remaining ancient forests" yet support "the FSC as the only credible global certification system." What? Has Greenpeace become certifiably insane? Greenpeace and other logging apologists such as WWF and the Rainforest Action Network want to have it both ways: against...

ALERT: Greenpeace, Come Clean and Stop Supporting Ancient Rainforest Logging via Earth Blog June 30th, 2007 at 19:33

TAKE ACTION. There is no denying the fact that Greenpeace supports Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) efforts to certify logging [search] of primary and old-growth forests as environmentally acceptable. It is a matter of public record. FSC's international board is chaired by a Greenpeace forest campaigner and they have long promoted FSC as the source of "green" timber. Greenpeace supports industrial ancient forest logging even as they are apparently suppressing their own report on specific problematic forest certifications. Transparency and depth of ecological understanding are not Greenpeace's strength. When the whole notion of certified logging in ancient rainforests is questioned, the Greenpeace PR machine shifts into full gear and seeks to mislead rather than respond substantively to...

PRESS RELEASE: Ecological Internet’s “End Ancient Forest Logging” Campaign Targets World Bank, WWF and Greenpeace for Their Role in Promoting Ancient Primary Rainforest Logging via Earth Blog May 4th, 2007 at 17:47

-- Do WWF and Greenpeace members realize they are supporting industrial logging of the world's last ancient rainforests? Until this changes, they should cancel their memberships. By Rainforest Portal, a project of Ecological Internet, http://www.rainforestportal.org/ Contact: Dr. Glen Barry, glenbarry@ecologicalinternet.org For years the World Bank, WWF and Greenpeace have put their faith in protecting the world's remaining ancient primary forests by reforming criminal industrial logging practices. These ancient forest logging apologists' policies of pursuing "sustainable forest management", "forest certification" and "improved forest governance" has been pursued for nearly two decades. Yet, ancient forest logging remains out of control, severely damaging ecosystems and the climate, and...
