ALERT: As Rainforest Action Network Prepares to “Revel”, What Has Become of Their Old Growth Forest Campaign? via Forest Protection Blog September 26th, 2008 at 20:31

image There is no chance of achieving global ancient forest protection, climate stabilization and ecological sustainability until RAN and other ancient forest logging apologists follow Friends of the Earth in withdrawing from the Forest Stewardship Council and uniting to work to end ancient forest logging TAKE ACTION! Rainforest Action Network (RAN) is one of a shrinking group of international environmental NGOs that supports industrial logging of ancient primary and old-growth forests by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) [search]. Sadly, as RAN prepares to gather for their annual lavish, celebrity studded "Revel" fund-raiser, there is little to celebrate regarding their disjointed and harmful Old Growth Campaign -- legitimate questions regarding their FSC support have been...

RELEASE: RAN Sells-Out Canadian Boreal Forests via Forest Protection Blog August 28th, 2008 at 21:43

image Press/Social Media Release Rainforest Action Network greenwashes destruction of half of Ontario, Canada's boreal forests; despite lack of any detail, and without scientific findings that doing so is ecologically sufficient By Earth's Newsdesk, a project of Ecological Internet Dr. Glen Barry, +1 (920) 776-1075 (Earth) -- Rainforest Action Network (RAN) of San Francisco has long been one of America's leading rainforest campaign organizations. Untouched Natural Forests Store Three Times More Carbon via Forest Protection Blog August 4th, 2008 at 18:53

image An important new Australian study finds that "untouched natural forests store three times more carbon dioxide [ark] than previously estimated and 60 percent more than plantation forests" and that first-time "logging resulted in more than a 40 percent reduction in long-term carbon compared with unlogged forests." They conclude that "in Australia and probably globally the carbon carrying capacity of natural forests [search] is underestimated and therefore misrepresented in economic valuations and in policy options." This resoundingly confirms Ecological Internet's forest campaign's key principle: sustaining intact ancient primary forests, by virtue of their holding of carbon and species, is a requirement for global ecological sustainability. This Earth Action Network's shared...

image There’s been a of talk lately about nuclear power being a good way to fight climate change, so our crew at RAN made the latest “Greenwash of the Week” about why it isn’t. We should support alternatives that will (1) not screw up the environment and (2) work. To see all of the GOTW videos (this is the ninth), click here....
