Re-imagine What’s Possible… and Re-invent the Future via It's Getting Hot In Here July 15th, 2008 at 21:35

image Young people are crucial in the global transition from dirty to clean energy. We also must play a pivotal role in re-envisioning and re-inventing our society to fully harness the potential within a clean energy future. If there is one idea that serves as our core identity and our rallying cry it is this: young people today have the power to change the world. Many of us emerge into the adult world a bit groggy with confusion and perhaps a lack of direction, but with the fierce motivation to “make a difference.” And the world, it seems, desperately needs us. We face an incredibly uncertain future. As a forthcoming UN report concludes, seeming almost entirely redundant, the world has never seen calamities at such a global scale. It is a relatively new conception of the world as...

Int’l Youth Conference Tells G8 To Stop Messing Around via It's Getting Hot In Here June 30th, 2008 at 10:44

image The World Youth Forum in advance of the G8 Summit has just concluded; it was an amazing weekend for sharing best practices, planning for future campaigns and taking action on the spot. Organized by the Japan Youth G8 Project, A SEED Japan, and the Japanese Youth Ecology League, the summit brought together close to 250 youth - over 200 from across Japan and about 20 from overseas. The conference was held in order to provide youth input into the upcoming G8 Meeting on climate change. The negotiations are anticipated to reinforce false solutions of CCS and all together ignore the need for mid-term targets, so the young people here felt it was essential to make our voices heard and encourage bold leadership. The statement adopted at the conference included calls of banning construction...

WV Young Democrats Say “No New Mountaintop Removal Permits!” via It's Getting Hot In Here April 22nd, 2008 at 00:29

image The youth organization of the most powerful political party in West Virginia passed a multi-pronged resolution on coal & green jobs that included a call for No New Mountaintop Removal Permits. Our generation knows that Mountaintop Removal takes mining coal too far and we have safer ways to mine it as we transition to renewable energies & energy efficiency. This resolution passed in the midst of an above-the-fold article in the Washington Post, the Presidential Campaigns closing in on the May 13th WV Democratic Primary, and a record showing of grassroots involvement in the WV Democratic County Conventions. The political machine in West Virginia is getting scared of what true grassroots organizers are building here in West Virginia and we are in the year of a lifetime to build our...
