“Will Obama deliver on the World’s ‘hope’ for a climate treaty?” via It's Getting Hot In Here November 14th, 2008 at 08:36

image The governments of Denmark, Poland, and France hosted a conference on Monday to discuss the role of the United States at this December’s UN Climate Negotiations in Poznań, Poland. These negotiations will set the stage for a final post-Kyoto climate treaty to be signed in Copenhagen, Denmark in December 2009. The Poland negotiations need to produce a robust roadmap with a shared vision that leads to a climate agreement in 2009. From the lead climate negotiator of Denmark, to the Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Strategic Planning from the UN, the message was clear. The United States must take the lead in ensuring a strong climate treaty by Copenhagen. Paula Dobriansky, the lead climate negotiator from the US State Department also spoke at the...

Great Work Power Vote, Now What? via It's Getting Hot In Here November 6th, 2008 at 16:40

image Power Shift 2009 is our opportunity to bring a clear message to Washington, “We want clean and just energy now!”. In February, 2009 over 10,000 young people will converge on DC for three days of training, strategy and action. We will unite as a movement and hold our elected officials accountable. Over 350,000 people have signed the Power Vote pledge stating their wish to have alternative sources of energy be considered at the highest levels. From the beginning of this Power Vote Campaign until the election our sole goal was to make the youth climate vote massive. The numbers available to us show that the youth block represented over 18% of the total electorate. Our push was not partisan, but rather open and intelligent. Taking a close minded view of the options in favor of the...

Cape Farewell Youth Expedition 2008 Sparks International Action via It's Getting Hot In Here October 14th, 2008 at 10:10

image This past 21st of September  I returned from an expedition to the arctic.  I was part of a team of 46 artists, scientists, writers, a photographer, filmmakers and students like me. We came from different parts of the world, from Brazil, Mexico, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland; Germany, England, India and each province of Canada. We started the past 31st of August in Lake St. George, Toronto, Canada. From there we flew to Reykjavik and boarded the Russian ship “Akademik Shokalskiy”, we sailed the coasts of Greenland visiting Inuit villages, learning from them about their way of life and how is it  changing because of climate change. The third week we arrived at Baffin Island, Canada, visiting small towns like Qikiqtarjuaq, talking to Inuit students our age. The voyage...
